SCOTSEM National Peer-to-Peer Exchange and Best Practices Summit

October 27-30, 2014
San Diego, California

This three-day event brought AASHTO members and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) together in broad-based forum on emergency management principles and infrastructure protection. Attendees had access to current national practices that can help emergency managers and department staff be better prepared for natural and human-caused disasters. Nothing can bring down a governor or transportation CEO faster than failure to prepare for an emergency or security incident.

Caltrans hosted the summit at its facility in San Diego and included three technical tours that provided insight into infrastructure protection and active-shooter response. The impressive agenda included discussions on resilience, emergency air operations, hazardous materials, rail shipments of crude oil, and the national strategy for transportation security, among other key issues.
